
Ayodhya is an important destination for pilgrims who follow hinduism. As per the belief of hindu followers Ayodhya is the birth place of Lord Ram and his other three brothers. Ayodhya has very rich historical explanations as per hindu vedas and puranas.
As per garuda purana Ayodhya is a one of the seven holy cities as per hindu rituals and described in purana. Other cities are Mathura, Maya (Haridwar), Kashi(Varanasi), Kanchi(Kanchipuram), Avantika(Ujjain) and Dwarkapuri.
As per facts available in many sanskrit texts initially Ayodhya was established by Manu and then later stages there many chakravarti samrat was there few names are Bharat, Aj, Dilip, Punarnava, Harishchandra, Raghu, Ichhavaku and dashrath. Lord Ram was also born in the same hierarchy. Ayodhya was always a prosperous estate in the era of these chakravarti samrat.
The holy river Saryu has an important place while seeing the history of Ayodhya and this is mentioned at many places. As per available facts mainland Ayodhya starts from Goptarghhat and ends at Bilwaharighat (Dashrath Samadhi) in length and in width from Saryu to Tamsa river.
Ayodhya is also known as the city of temples. As per belief there are 7000 temples but nowadays only few hundred are alive. In Ayodhya there are many big and small temples which are very very spiritually rich like Kanak Bhawan, Hanuman Gadhi, Sugreev Kila, Valmiki Ramayan bhawan, Nageswar Nath, Chheereshwar nath, Badi Devkali, Chhoti Devkali, Ramkot area, Swargadwar Area which derived spirituality and its belief.
As per hindu, Jain and Budhha texts Ayodhya is also known as “SAKET”. Which was the capital of one of the Mahajanpad “KOSHAL”. Chinese travelers Fhyaan and Hwensaang has also mentioned about the city ayodhya.
As per Jainism there was 5 Teerthankars who born in Ayodhya was named as 1st Teerthankar Bhagwan shri Rishabhdev Adinath ji and others were Ajitanatha, Abhinandananatha, Sumatinath and Anantnath. There is 21 feet bog Adinath bhagwan statue there in one of the jain temple. There also Jain temples are build at the other birth places. As per Buddhist and Jain books mention that the religious leaders Gautama Buddha and Mahavira visited in the city at their time.
In Ayodhya there are two devine places for the Sikha followers, where belief is Guru Nanak dev ji has visited the city and also 10th Guru Govind singh ji was also stayed in city when he was going from patna sahib to nankana sahib.
Ayodhya is big religius place for people of muslim faith. As per many beliefs there are more than 100 shirines. The followers of Paigambar Hazrat Shees, Nuh and BadiBua derive its importance and belief. Naugazi Mazar behind Kotwali used to be called by “Jinda fakiri” due to the belief of his living and staying around Adgada.
As per Buddhism belief Bhagwan Budhha also visited Ayodhya during his time and he stayed here. This is mentioned in many places in Pali texts.
